Paris-based composer and multidisciplinary artist Samuel Barbier-Ficat returns with Siegfried, a new EP where chamber opera, noise and experimental electronics crash into each other. Soprano Faustine de Monès cuts through the fractured industrial arrangements, turning the record’s theatrical world into something both grand and slightly unhinged.
The title character is part opera hero, part autobiographical alter ego, inspired by both Wagnerian mythology and the street where Barbier-Ficat grew up. On “Oyster,” playful lyrics about ambition, networking and the absurd codes of the art world meet production that seems constantly on the verge of breaking apart. Siegfried arrives October 21 via Wrong Way, following Barbier-Ficat’s 2025 EP Curtain Music.
