Mayo Thompson announces Quiet Days in Cliché, a new album of acoustic improvisations due December 4 via Drag City. Recorded casually on a smartphone, the record strips Thompson’s music down to simple strumming, fragments and spontaneous ideas, treating the guitar less as a finished-song instrument than a way of thinking out loud. The album offers another perspective on the work of the Red Krayola founder, whose experiments have connected psychedelic music, improvisation and avant-garde songwriting since the mid-1960s.

“K-Pook” is the first excerpt.
