American guitarist and producer Brad Allen Williams has announced the release of a new solo album called œconomy which is out on February 10th via Colorfield. “tecnologia” is the new excerpt which features drummer Mark Guiliana.
He explains: “The first day co-producer Pete Min and I begun work, I quasi-randomly chose his vintage modular Moog synthesizer as a starting point.
When it was new, the modular Moog was so often used in television and film music to evoke futurism—an imagined vision of 21st century aesthetics. That alternate future is at least as interesting as the one we actually have, and the result of sitting with that sound launched “tecnologia.”
As the idea developed, I wanted to write some emotional, almost saccharine strings to be delivered deadpan against the cold electronic ostinato. Certain records—old Burt Bacharach records, for example—have these layered emotions, where a cloying arrangement might be performed with a frigid sternness. I always found that to be incredibly evocative.
Near the end of the process, Mark Guiliana came in to record additional drums. He of course intuitively understood what the track needed, and sets up the two major scene-changes of the piece.”
