Wilby, the indie-rock moniker of songwriter and multidisciplinary artist Maria Crawford, has unveiled her new single “Care”, a striking prelude to her forthcoming debut album Center of Affection, arriving October 10th via Hit The North Records.
The album, which also gathers earlier singles “Pleaser”, “Spin”, “Experiments” and the title track, charts Crawford’s evolution as both writer and performer. “Care”, penned in the spring of 2023, marked the pivotal moment when Crawford recognised the need to shape a body of work rooted in raw honesty, accountability, and unflinching self-examination.
“We’ve been playing it live for two years now,” shares Crawford. “The first handful of times, I couldn’t make it through. It’s about the people I’ve hurt, and the pain of knowing that—even while giving them so much of myself. That tension is something I think we all feel. Most of us don’t mean to hurt each other—we’re just trying, imperfectly, to love.
