British composer Richard Skelton and Australian experimentalist Lawrence English finally join forces on NOON, a four-part meeting of glacial ambient, field texture and low-frequency weight, due via Phantom Limb on November 20. The first excerpt, “Sprites,” crawls out of shortwave hiss and spectral tones before slowly locking into a massive, almost geological pulse.

According to the press release,  built from conversations that started during the strange quiet of 2021, the record draws on storms, flooding, isolation and landscapes that feel increasingly indifferent to human scale. Skelton’s haunted sense of place and English’s obsession with perception and deep sonics meet without ever fully collapsing into one voice. It’s music for grey horizons and weather moving somewhere beyond the window, beautiful but carrying the unmistakable pressure of something much larger.
