Berlin-based Chilean bassist, composer and producer Diego Alejandro unveils “Flenx,” a restless piece of contemporary jazz fusion built around a driving 6/8 pulse. South American rhythmic traditions including cueca, zamacueca and chacarera are pushed through a heavier, more progressive framework, with Hammond, brass and collective improvisation constantly shifting the track’s centre of gravity. Inspired by Chilean fusion pioneers Los Jaivas and Congreso, Alejandro turns those roots into something sharper and more futuristic. “Flenx” is out now via Lekker Collective.
