Clyde Crooks arrives with Hark, a six-track EP where glossy electro-pop, emo and gothic melodrama collide. According to the press release, Crooks turns deeply personal material into songs that still know how to move. “Blocked” watches addiction from painfully close range, while “Math” transforms the grief of losing a friend into something brighter, eventually finding a way back to memory rather than staying trapped in trauma. Elsewhere, “1000” pushes into post-hardcore screams and “Coldest Day of The Year” turns sobriety and vulnerability into a reluctant love song. The result is pop music with bruises, strange edges and enough darkness underneath the hooks to keep Hark from ever feeling too clean.
