Mappa is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Synthetic Water Music, a double-cassette compilation featuring 51 tracks by 57 artists. Following 2023’s Synthetic Bird Music, the release brings together experimental ambient, electroacoustic, and textural music from artists including Pauline Anna Strom, Visible Cloaks, Ursula K. Le Guin & Todd Barton, Miki Yui, Perila, and Jules Reidy. Conceived as a companion to Synthetic Bird Music, the two compilations can be rearranged by swapping tapes and sides, creating different miniature sound ecologies. Synthetic Water Music is out September 10 via Mappa, while the previously sold-out Synthetic Bird Music is also being reissued.
