Minneapolis indiepop outfit Real Numbers have announced their new album, Was It Always This Way, arriving August 14 via Slumberland Records, alongside the jangling lead single “Never Never Again.” Recorded with longtime producer Matt Castore at Softcult Studios, the LP pairs shimmering, layered guitars with bittersweet songwriting that draws on the melodic tradition of late-’80s and early-’90s UK indie without slipping into mere nostalgia. Fronted by songwriter Eli Hansen and featuring a refreshed lineup, the band explores themes of identity, fame and self-worth across ten finely crafted songs.
