Ambient composers Tomoyoshi Date and Stijn Hüwels have reunited for Tatemono (建物), their third collaborative album and latest chapter in a partnership that stretches back to a chance meeting in Tokyo a decade ago.
According to the press release, building on the delicate interplay that defined earlier releases Hochu-Ekki-Tou and A Distant Fire, A Distant Cloud, the new work finds the pair weaving processed guitar, field recordings, and gently treated acoustic instrumentation into a quietly immersive soundscape. Date’s organic, meditative approach and Hüwels’ minimalist sensibility remain a natural match, resulting in music that feels suspended between memory and place.
