British artist Richard Norris returns with 8MM, a deeply atmospheric solo album arriving June 23 via State of Mind Recordings, transforming decaying Super 8 home movies into immersive electronic elegies. A longtime architect of British electronic music through projects like The Grid and collaborations with figures ranging from Brian Eno to The Chemical Brothers, Norris approaches 8MM with striking emotional restraint and cinematic patience.

Lead single “River’s Song” drifts through tape hiss, blurred analogue textures, and fragile melodic fragments, unfolding like the soundtrack to a half-remembered dream slowly dissolving in real time. Inspired by reels of amateur footage collected from friends and strangers, the record treats nostalgia as distortion — memories flickering, eroding, and reshaping themselves inside loops of ambient haze and lo-fi disintegration.

He explains: “River’s Song is a hazy, languid piece. It’s a reflective, slightly lo fi score to accompany the flickering visions of a scratched old reel of 8mm film, with a river slowly running by.”
