After retiring his project Dirty Beaches, Alex Zhang Hungtai furthered focusing his pursuit of improvised music, free-jazz, and explorations with different instrumentations. Hungtai appeared in an episode of “Twin Peaks,” performing in a band with David Lynch’s son.
To announce the new album, Alex is sharing one single from each: “Mother” and “Sidewinder,” about which he says: “Both tracks share a common theme — an exploration of the primordial state within the unconscious that leads to a confrontation with what is unspoken and hidden. The symbolism is neither negative nor positive, but a guide that snakes its way across the psychogeographic terrain of the mind.”
