Ali Sethi and Gregory Rogove announce Room Jhoom, their frist collaborative album set for May 22. Across the album, vocal lines interact with minimal electronic structures, emphasizing phrasing and tonal control. The project follows Sethi’s recent work, including collaborations with Nicolás Jaar, extending into a more reduced sonic framework.
“Angana” is the new excerpt. According to the press release, The new single is a propulsive, marching piece, closer to the ‘ragaton’ vibe Sethi is known for. He explains: “this track emulates a communal chant, with many layered voices (all mine) heralding a lover’s homecoming. ‘He comes to me now, I blush and bow, my ankle bells sing and my bangles grow loud.’ The horn meltdown at the end — like ill-behaved conch-shells at a futuristic religious ceremony — is my favorite part of the arrangement, throwing the folksy atmosphere into a postmodern tizzy.”
